Venus Cazimi, Retrogrades & Protecting Your Peace

Two Hours of Meditation, a Venus Cazimi & Some Fluffy White Bullshit

October 23, 2026•20 min read

“Peace isn't always something you find. Sometimes it's something you decide you're no longer willing to sacrifice.”

Well, what a difference a day can make. LOL. Yesterday morning I was seriously contemplating updating my resume, walking away from everything I've spent years building and telling the world to take its never-ending pile of bullshit and shove it somewhere unpleasant. By the time I crawled into bed last night, I was actually relaxed. Not exhausted to the point of passing out, not pretending everything was fine while mentally arguing with people who weren't even in the room, but genuinely relaxed. And considering how yesterday started, that's a pretty damn big accomplishment. Because let me tell you, yesterday was BUSY. The kind of busy where you finally stop moving and your head is still spinning from everything you've done, everything you've had to rearrange and everything that's waiting for your attention tomorrow. But somewhere in the middle of all that craziness, I made a decision that I think might be more important than anything I managed to cross off my to-do list.

I decided I wasn't going to end my day the same way I'd started it.

Now, if you read yesterday's blog, you already know that my morning was a complete shitshow. And while I managed to get through the day without telling anyone exactly where they could stick their unnecessary last-minute changes, the frustration didn't magically disappear just because I had work to do. I still had things to sort out, projects to review and a whole bunch of responsibilities that weren't going to take care of themselves. But I also knew that if I carried all that anger into bed with me, there was a pretty good chance I'd wake up this morning feeling just as miserable. And quite frankly, I wasn't willing to give yesterday's chaos that much power over today.

So I did something that, for me, is almost unheard of.

I spent TWO HOURS meditating.

Yes, two whole hours. LOL. Now, anyone who knows me knows that sitting still for that long is not exactly my natural state of being. I've got a brain that seems to operate with approximately forty-seven tabs open at any given moment, a calendar that's usually booked further ahead than I'd like to admit and enough ideas floating around in my head to keep me busy for the next decade. Even when I'm relaxing, I'm usually listening to something, learning something, planning something or mentally reorganizing something. So the idea of deliberately setting aside two hours to simply sit, meditate and allow myself to settle is a pretty big deal.

But I needed it. And more importantly, I recognized that I needed it before I reached the point where I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't think straight.

I wasn't trying to convince myself that yesterday's frustration wasn't justified. It absolutely was. I wasn't trying to talk myself out of the boundaries I'd decided needed to be put in place, either. Those decisions still stand. What I wanted was to stop carrying the physical and emotional weight of everything that had happened. I wanted my nervous system to settle, my mind to quiet down and my body to understand that just because the day had been stressful didn't mean I needed to stay in that state for the rest of the night. So I gave myself the time. No checking emails, no reviewing projects, no trying to squeeze in one more task because there were still a few minutes left in the day. Just me, my meditation and the decision that my peace was worth two hours of my time.

And apparently, I was right. LOL.

I also had a quick conversation with someone I work with who has become a genuinely trusted friend, and something about that conversation really stuck with me. We had another project that needed our attention, and honestly, it was already on my mind. I was ready to tackle it, because that's just how my brain works. If something needs to be done and I've got the information to move forward, my natural instinct is to get in there and start working on it. But she knew what kind of day I'd had, and rather than adding another thing to my plate, she chose to leave it for the morning.

And I loved that.

Not because I needed someone to protect me from my own workload, or because I couldn't have handled the conversation, but because it was such a simple demonstration of consideration. She knew there were other things we needed to work through, but she also recognized that they didn't all need to be dealt with right that minute. We had a quick chat, made a plan to touch base this morning and left it at that. No unnecessary pressure, no urgency created where there wasn't any, and no expectation that I should drop everything else simply because another project was waiting.

It's funny how those little moments can mean so much, especially when they happen on the same day you've been dealing with the exact opposite. And I think that's something I've been paying a lot more attention to lately. The people who genuinely respect your time and energy don't necessarily have to make some huge grand gesture to prove it. Sometimes it's as simple as recognizing that you've had a hell of a day and saying, "We can deal with this tomorrow." And when you've spent years being the person who will rearrange absolutely everything to make sure everyone else is taken care of, having someone extend that same consideration to you feels pretty damn good.

So after our chat, I crawled into bed with my little personal heater, Missy Moo, and had an absolutely fabulous night's sleep. Apparently two hours of meditation, a little peace of mind and a Chihuahua who believes her rightful place is snuggled up beside her mother are a pretty fantastic combination. LOL. And when I woke up this morning, I wasn't carrying yesterday's anger around with me. I still remembered everything that happened, and my decisions about certain working relationships certainly haven't changed, but that heavy, fired-up feeling was gone. Which was exactly what I'd hoped to accomplish.

Of course, when I got up this morning, it was still black as night outside. Because apparently we've officially entered that wonderful time of year in Alberta when the sun has decided she's not getting out of bed until around eight o'clock, and by six in the evening she's already calling it quits. LOL. It's amazing how quickly the seasons change around here. One minute you're enjoying those long Alberta summer evenings when there's still daylight as you're crawling into bed at 11 p.m., and the next you're turning lights on before breakfast and wondering whether the sun has forgotten where you live. We're officially at the point where the lights in our house are on more than they're off, the woodstove is starting to earn its keep and the outdoor water buckets are reminding me that freezing temperatures are no longer some distant winter problem.

And speaking of winter, that dreaded S**W word has officially made its way into today's forecast.

Now, I know some people get ridiculously excited about the first snowfall. They start talking about how beautiful everything looks, how cozy it feels and how magical those first big flakes are. And don't get me wrong, I can absolutely appreciate a beautiful winter scene. Preferably from inside my nice warm house, with a coffee in my hand and absolutely no reason to go outside. LOL. But I'm not quite ready to embrace winter yet. I've still got things I want to get done around the homestead, the garage needs attention and I'd really appreciate it if Mother Nature could hold off on the white fluffy bullshit until we've finished a few more projects.

Apparently she has other plans.

The weather hit the city before it reached us, and hubby and his crew ended up getting rained out, which means he's coming home early today. Now, I'm certainly not going to complain about getting him home sooner than expected, but it did mean making another little adjustment to our plans. We'd been talking about taking the Jeep into the city for its out-of-province inspection, and after looking at everything else we've got going on, I've decided that next Saturday is officially off-limits.

And I mean OFF-LIMITS.

Unless there's a genuine family emergency, I don't care what kind of last-minute project, deadline or supposedly urgent situation pops up. That day is staying clear. We're taking the Jeep into the city, getting its inspection handled and moving one step closer to having it insured and registered. Ideally, we wanted all of that finished before the snow started flying, although judging by what's happening outside my window, Mother Nature clearly didn't consult our schedule. LOL. Even if the Jeep spends most of the winter tucked away in the garage, I want the paperwork done and one less thing hanging over our heads.

And honestly, making that decision felt pretty damn good.

Because one of the things I've been realizing lately is just how often my own plans are the first things to get moved when somebody else needs something. I'm incredibly flexible when it comes to my schedule, and I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. Flexibility is important, especially when you're working with clients, running your own business and managing a household and homestead. But there's a difference between being flexible and constantly treating your own priorities like they're optional. And after yesterday, I think I'm becoming a whole lot less interested in allowing that to happen.

Which brings me to something else that's been on my mind today.

Astrology.

Because seriously, have you looked at what's happening in the sky right now? LOL. Today, October 23, we have a Venus cazimi in Scorpio, right in the middle of Venus retrograde. And tomorrow, October 24, Mercury officially stations retrograde, also in Scorpio. Now, I've been paying attention to the Mercury pre-retrograde shadow for weeks, and if you've been following along with my adventures lately, you already know that I've had more than a few moments where I've looked at the communication issues, changing plans and things needing to be revisited and thought, "Well, isn't THAT interesting timing?"

But today's Venus cazimi has me thinking about something a little deeper than missed messages and project revisions.

For those who aren't familiar with the term, a cazimi happens when a planet comes into a very close conjunction with the Sun. In astrology, it's often interpreted as a moment of illumination, a point where something becomes clearer or where we have an opportunity to see a situation from a different perspective. And with Venus retrograde in Scorpio, the themes are particularly interesting. Venus isn't just about romance and pretty things. She's also associated with relationships, values, self-worth, money and what we're willing to give and receive. Scorpio adds another layer involving trust, emotional honesty, power dynamics and the things we sometimes prefer to keep buried rather than deal with directly.

Now tell me that doesn't sound familiar after yesterday. LOL.

I've spent a lot of time lately looking at my relationships, both personally and professionally. Not just the people I enjoy spending time with, but the people I trust, the people I choose to collaborate with and the situations I'm willing to continue participating in. Yesterday brought some of those questions right to the surface, and while I certainly didn't enjoy the way they arrived, I can't ignore the clarity that came with them. There are people I absolutely love working with, people who make me excited about what we're building and remind me why I chose this path in the first place. And there are other working relationships that I've realized simply aren't worth the repeated frustration. That's not a decision I made lightly, and it's certainly not one I'm making because a planet happens to be retrograde. But I do find it fascinating that these realizations are happening during a period that, astrologically, is so closely associated with reviewing our values and relationships.

And then we've got Mercury getting ready to join the retrograde party tomorrow. Although, calling it a party might be a bit of an understatement at this point. It's more like a whole damn planetary convention, and apparently everyone got the memo except me. LOL. Because Venus isn't the only planet currently moving backward. We've also got Uranus retrograde in Gemini, Saturn and Neptune both retrograde in Aries, and Pluto has only recently stationed direct in Aquarius, meaning it's still working its way through its post-retrograde shadow. And just to add another little layer to the mix, Jupiter is already in its pre-retrograde shadow over in Leo. So when Mercury officially joins the lineup tomorrow, we'll have FIVE planets retrograde at the same time, with Pluto and Jupiter adding their own shadow-period themes to the conversation. Seriously, is there anybody up there NOT reviewing something right now? LOL.

And the more I look at what each of these planets represents astrologically, the more interesting the whole picture becomes. Uranus retrograde in Gemini brings themes of changing perspectives, questioning old ways of thinking and reconsidering how we communicate, learn and process information. Saturn retrograde in Aries has a whole lot to do with reviewing responsibility, personal authority, boundaries and how we take action on the things that matter to us. Neptune retrograde, also in Aries, adds another layer involving dreams, intuition, identity and figuring out where inspiration ends and reality begins. And Pluto, now moving direct through Aquarius but still in its shadow, carries those bigger themes of transformation, power, community and rebuilding systems that no longer work the way they should. When I look at all of that together, I can't help but laugh a little, because I've spent the last several weeks doing exactly those things in one way or another. Questioning systems, reorganizing my business, reevaluating working relationships, looking at where my energy goes and trying to figure out how to bring some pretty big dreams into reality without completely running myself into the ground in the process.

And NOW Mercury is showing up to make sure we've reviewed the communication too. Fantastic. LOL.

Mercury retrograde is traditionally associated with reviewing communication, agreements, systems, technology and unfinished business. And with Mercury stationing in Scorpio, the symbolism leans toward looking beneath the surface, asking better questions and examining the details that might otherwise get overlooked. Which is rather fitting when I think about the number of times I've had to revisit completed projects, resend information that's already been provided and reorganize my schedule because something wasn't communicated properly in the first place. Again, I'm not blaming the planets for anybody else's behaviour. People are still responsible for their own decisions, regardless of what's happening astrologically. But I do enjoy using these transits as opportunities to reflect on what's happening in my own life and what I might want to approach differently.

And the more I think about it, the more I realize that the biggest thing I'm reviewing right now isn't actually my calendar.

It's my relationship with my own time and energy.

For years, I've been the person who will figure it out, make it work, rearrange things and find a way to get everything done. And while I'm proud of that part of myself, I'm also starting to recognize that being capable of handling something doesn't automatically mean I should be expected to handle it. Just because I CAN rearrange my day to accommodate somebody else's poor planning doesn't mean I HAVE to. Just because I can stay up late finishing another project doesn't mean that's always the best use of my time. And just because I care deeply about the people I work with doesn't mean I have to sacrifice my own well-being to prove it.

Maybe that's part of what yesterday's two-hour meditation was really about.

Not just calming down after a frustrating day, but reminding myself that I deserve the same consideration I so freely give to other people. That my nervous system deserves a chance to settle. That my personal plans matter. That the projects I'm building for my own future deserve time on my calendar that doesn't automatically disappear whenever somebody else needs something. And that sometimes the most important thing I can do is stop long enough to recognize what I actually need before I start worrying about what everybody else needs from me.

So this morning, instead of immediately diving into the next pile of work, I gave myself a little time to enjoy the start of my day. I made a wonderful breakfast, lit a fire in the woodstove and let the house warm up while the world outside continued getting colder. There's something about having a fire going that makes the whole house feel different, especially when it's still dark outside and you know winter is starting to settle in. And after the craziness of yesterday, I was more than happy to enjoy that cozy feeling for a little while before heading into the office.

I also spent some time doing an energetic clearing, not just in my office but throughout the entire house. And yes, I know some people are going to read that and think I've officially wandered off into the spiritual deep end. LOL. But honestly, I've reached a point in my life where I'm much more interested in exploring the things that resonate with me than worrying about whether everybody else understands them. I've been studying astrology, Human Design, different spiritual traditions and energy practices for years, and lately I've been diving even deeper into how those different pieces fit together in my own life. Some of the practices I use are things I've been doing for a long time, while others are newer additions that I'm still learning about. And I genuinely enjoy having those moments where I can slow down, reconnect with myself and create an environment that feels good to be in.

By the time I finally made it into my office, I had my frequencies playing, my scans had been run and I was listening to the tones suggested through my personal wellness routine while imprinting the recommended supplements. It's one of those routines that I've been incorporating more consistently lately, and for me, it's another opportunity to check in with myself instead of immediately throwing my attention toward everything waiting on the computer. I like taking those moments to notice how I'm feeling, what kind of energy I'm bringing into the day and whether I'm approaching my work from a place of calm or from that frantic feeling of needing to get everything done RIGHT NOW.

Because there's a pretty big difference between being productive and being constantly wound up.

And I think that's something I'm finally starting to understand on a deeper level. I don't need to be stressed out to prove I'm working hard. I don't need to fill every available minute of my day to prove I'm committed to my clients or my business. And I certainly don't need to carry yesterday's frustration into today just because the work that caused it still needs to be finished. I can be busy and still feel calm. I can have a ridiculous to-do list and still make time for myself. I can recognize that something needs to change without making a massive, emotional decision to throw everything away.

Which is a pretty damn good thing, considering I was contemplating updating my resume less than twenty-four hours ago. LOL.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm still me. I'm still going to have days when I try to cram three days' worth of work into one, get excited about seventeen different ideas at the same time and make lists that probably need their own filing system. I'm still going to get frustrated when things don't go according to plan, and I'm certainly not going to suddenly become one of those people who floats through life completely unbothered by everything happening around them. That would be a pretty dramatic personality change, and I'm not sure hubby would know what to do with me. LOL.

But I am learning that I get to decide how much of that chaos I carry with me.

And maybe that's what I'm taking away from this Venus cazimi and the whole retrograde party happening around it. Not some grand prediction about what happens next, and not the idea that everything is suddenly going to become easier because of a planetary alignment. More of an invitation to look at what I value, who I trust, what needs to change and whether the way I'm spending my time actually reflects the life I'm trying to build. Because at the end of the day, that's what all this work is supposed to be about. I'm not building a business just so I can spend every waking moment putting out fires, rearranging my schedule and cleaning up problems that could have been avoided. I'm building something that allows me to do work I love, collaborate with people I respect and create a life that gives me the freedom to enjoy the things that matter most.

And sometimes protecting that vision means setting boundaries. Sometimes it means having difficult conversations. Sometimes it means clearing an entire Saturday off the calendar because the Jeep needs to get inspected and that's simply what we're doing. And apparently, sometimes it means spending two hours meditating with absolutely no guilt about the work that's still waiting.

Who knew? LOL.

So here I am, sitting in my office with the frequencies playing, the woodstove warming the house and a whole bunch of things waiting for my attention. I've already adjusted a few meetings, made plans to connect with my friend and gotten myself into a much better headspace than I was in yesterday morning. The work hasn't disappeared, the to-do list certainly hasn't gotten any shorter and Mercury hasn't even officially stationed retrograde yet. But I feel good. I feel grounded. And most importantly, I feel like I'm making decisions about my day instead of simply reacting to everything that lands in front of me.

And as I'm sitting here looking out the window, I can see HUGE white fluffy pieces of shit falling from the sky.

So apparently winter has decided to make its grand entrance whether I'm ready for it or not. LOL. Which means I should probably go take a few pictures for the girls before I get my butt back to work. Because while I might not be particularly thrilled about the arrival of snow, I know there are people who will be excited to see those first big flakes falling around the homestead.

And honestly, after everything that's happened over the last couple of days, I can appreciate the timing of that too. Yesterday was all fire and frustration. Last night was about finding my calm. Today feels like a fresh start, even if Mother Nature has decided to cover everything in white fluffy bullshit.

So here's to trusted friends, warm woodstoves, tiny Chihuahua heaters, two-hour meditations, cosmic timing and finally recognizing that protecting my peace doesn't mean I care any less about the people and projects in my life.

It means I'm learning to care about myself just as much.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some snow pictures to take, a coffee to finish and a whole lot of shit to get done.

Let's go Do the Dang Thang!
