The Calendar Told Me to Eat
"Success isn't just remembering the meetings. It's remembering to take care of the person showing up to them."
Good afternoon!!! Yes... afternoon. lol
Apparently today decided it was going to get away from me before I ever had a chance to sit down and write. In fact, I was happily working away when my calendar popped up a reminder that simply said...
EAT.
I laughed.
Mostly because I had completely forgotten.
A couple of years ago I probably would've looked at a reminder like that and thought, "Seriously? Who schedules lunch?" Today, I'm incredibly grateful that past Niki knew future Niki well enough to realize she'd probably need the reminder.
Life has been full lately.
Not bad full.
Just... wonderfully, beautifully, slightly chaotic full.
ParkLane is officially back in my life, and I've been having an absolute blast getting everything ready for my Welcome Back Party. Let's be honest... free bling doesn't exactly hurt the motivation either. At the same time, September is sneaking up ridiculously fast, which means I've already started preparing for the Solex conference. One client is updating their restaurant menu, another is getting a complete social media rebrand, and somewhere in between all of that I'm still building my own businesses, creating content, planning launches, and trying to stay at least one step ahead of my calendar.
Then, of course, there's real life.
The dogs still need looking after. The basement still seems determined to become an indoor swimming pool every time Alberta decides to throw another storm our way. The yard needs cleaning up after what feels like weeks of rain, laundry still refuses to fold itself, and meals don't magically appear just because my to-do list is overflowing. The sun finally decided to make an appearance today though, so I happily stole twenty minutes to wander around the yard with the chichis. Sometimes that's all it takes to remind me there's a whole world outside my office window.
The one thing I've become fiercely protective of lately is making space for the non-negotiables. Meditation. Grounding. Walks. Lunch. Actually drinking water. The little things don't look particularly impressive on a calendar, but I've realized they're often the reason everything else works as well as it does. There was a version of me that believed slowing down meant falling behind. Now I know those pauses aren't interruptions to my work... they're part of my work. They allow me to show up fully for my clients, my businesses, my family, and honestly... for myself.
The other thing that's been taking up a huge chunk of my time lately is diving deep into Saturn Retrograde. Not because it's the shiny new transit everyone is talking about this week, but because Saturn doesn't work like that. Saturn is the long game. It's not a one or two day event that flips your world upside down and then disappears. It's asking us to review our foundations, our responsibilities, the structures we've built, and whether they're actually capable of supporting where we're trying to go. The deeper I dive into it, the more fascinating it becomes.
But here's the thing...
Saturn isn't the only energy in the room.
Mercury may have stationed direct, but we're still walking through the post-retrograde shadow. The Nodes have officially shifted into Aquarius and Leo, changing the collective storyline we'll all be working with over the coming months. Tomorrow's Full Moon brings another layer into the mix. Then we have our natal charts, Human Design, numerology, nervous systems, real-life circumstances, relationships, careers... and suddenly you realize there isn't just one energy affecting us.
There are dozens.
That's one of the biggest reasons I do what I do.
Sometimes I scroll social media and see people explaining a transit as though it's the only thing happening in the sky. They'll confidently say, "This transit means this," as if one single planetary movement can explain every emotion, every decision, and every experience every person on Earth is having. The reality is so much more beautiful than that.
Astrology is like making soup.
You don't throw one ingredient into a pot and call it dinner.
Every transit adds another flavour. Some are bold. Some are subtle. Some work beautifully together, while others challenge each other. Then we each bring our own unique natal chart into the equation, which means no two people are ever tasting exactly the same thing.
That's why one person can feel incredibly inspired during a Full Moon while another feels emotional and exhausted. One person may finally receive the clarity they've been searching for, while someone else realizes they're only just beginning the journey.
Neither is wrong.
They're simply working with a different recipe.
The more I study astrology, Human Design, numerology, and energy, the less interested I become in making dramatic predictions. Instead, I find myself wanting to help people understand how to work with the energy they're experiencing instead of feeling like they're at its mercy. Because when you understand there are dozens of flavours creating the experience you're living, you stop asking, "What's going to happen to me?" and start asking, "How can I work with what's unfolding?"
As I sit here finishing this blog with my lunch finally beside me, I'm smiling a little.
My calendar reminded me to eat.
The sun reminded me to go outside.
Saturn reminded me to build stronger foundations.
And life reminded me that no matter how busy things get, taking care of the woman building the businesses will always be just as important as building the businesses themselves.
I'd call that a pretty successful Tuesday.
