Success Looks Different These Days
"There was a time I measured success by what I accomplished. Today, I measure it by whether I was present for the people who matter most."
Good morning.
As I'm sitting down to write this, I'm actually waiting for a client who's running a little behind, which feels strangely fitting because today has been one of those beautifully imperfect days already. It's a First Quarter Moon, my calendar is packed with client work, and yes... I missed yesterday's TikTok Live.
Groan.
Trust me, I noticed.
For about thirty seconds.
Then I remembered why.
My son got a job offer that he simply couldn't say no to.
If you've ever watched someone step into a brand-new chapter of their life, you know exactly what comes next. Paperwork. Running around. Last-minute errands. Questions. More paperwork. Making sure they actually have everything they need before heading out of town. Before I knew it, the day had completely shifted, and honestly... I didn't fight it.
Because let me make something abundantly clear.
Yes, I'm a CEO.
Yes, I'm building multiple businesses.
Yes, I'm incredibly passionate about the work I do.
But before any of that...
I'm a wife.
I'm a mom.
For years - and I mean years - I convinced myself that building successful businesses meant my family had to understand why they came second... sometimes even third. There was always another call to take, a shift to cover, another event to attend, another goal to hit, another rank to chase. I told myself I was doing it for them, but if I'm being really honest, there were seasons where I wasn't actually with them very much at all.
That season of my life is over.
I'm unapologetic about that.
Now, before anyone takes that as me saying business doesn't matter anymore... absolutely not. Life isn't all or nothing. One of my clients finally got her computer back after it had been in the repair shop, and she needed help getting everything set back up. Of course I jumped on Zoom with her. I simply let her know ahead of time that she might hear a few interruptions because I was also helping kiddo get ready for this next adventure. There wasn't an emergency. There wasn't a crisis. There were simply two people I care about who needed me at the same time, and we figured it out.
That's the part I don't think enough entrepreneurs talk about.
Balance isn't some mythical place where everything gets exactly fifty percent of your attention every single day.
Balance is knowing what matters most in this moment.
Today, that meant family.
Tomorrow, it might mean spending six uninterrupted hours creating content.
Next week, it might mean taking care of a client who needs extra support.
It's always moving.
It's always changing.
And maybe that's what balance actually looks like.
Mercury Retrograde has been giving me another reminder too...
Apparently I'm still a complete klutz.
Seriously.
Does anyone else notice this?
Every Mercury Retrograde I seem to collect random bruises that I have absolutely no explanation for. One minute it's my knee. Then it's my ankle. Somewhere along the way I managed to sprain it just enough to be annoying, so now I'm asking myself, "Where's my brace? Where's my KT tape?" It's become almost comical at this point. Maybe Mercury isn't just reviewing our communication and technology... maybe it's reviewing our relationship with gravity too.
As I sit here waiting for my client to hop onto Zoom, I'm realizing this First Quarter Moon feels incredibly appropriate. This phase isn't about having everything figured out. It's about making adjustments. Choosing your next step. Working through whatever friction shows up instead of expecting the path to be perfectly smooth.
Looking around my life today, I think that's exactly what's happening.
My businesses are evolving.
My systems are evolving.
My family is stepping into a brand-new chapter.
Even I am redefining what success actually looks like.
And for the first time in a very long time...
I don't feel guilty for choosing the people I love.
I think that's one of the biggest milestones I've reached this year.
Not a launch.
Not a number in my bank account.
Not another business milestone.
Simply knowing that when my family needs me...
I'm already home.
Until next time,
