Mach One With My Hair on Fire
“Pressure doesn’t always mean you’re overwhelmed. Sometimes it means it’s time to find out just how much you’ve grown.”
Well ... it's been a hot damn minute since I wrote a blog.
And honestly, when I look at everything that's been happening around here, I'm not entirely surprised. Between Utah prep, research, long weekends with hubby home, multiple websites being built, a client's book launch, regular client work, prepping for an event at the restaurant this weekend, and approximately seventeen thousand little things that apparently also need to happen before I get on a plane next week ... I'm pretty sure the best description of my life right now is Mach One with my hair on fire. LOL.
The pressure is definitely mounting. I can feel it. I can look at the calendar and SEE it. There is officially that point coming where things can't keep getting pushed to “later this week” because we're running out of later this week. But weirdly enough, I'm not freaking out. I'm not sitting here staring at the list feeling like I want to crawl back into bed and pretend none of it exists. It's a completely different kind of pressure. More of a roll-up-the-sleeves, crank-the-music, refill-the-coffee and let's get some fucking shit DONE kind of energy.
And considering how many times over the last couple of months I've written about feeling buzzy, scattered, foggy, overwhelmed or needing to stop and regulate my nervous system, I actually noticed the difference.
There's a lot on my plate right now, but it doesn't feel like I'm carrying all of it at once.
Maybe that's because I've finally gotten better at recognizing what actually needs my attention today. Utah is officially a week away, but I don't need to pack my suitcase today. I do need to make sure the work that has to be finished before I leave is handled. The restaurant event is Saturday, so there are things that need attention before then. Hubby day is Sunday, Monday is my final run-to-town, grab-cash, fill-the-truck, finish-packing kind of day, and then Tuesday... holy shit, I'm getting on a plane.
Just typing that made it feel slightly more real. LOL.
And somewhere in the middle of all this craziness, I've been reminded that this is exactly why I've spent so much time trying to build systems that work with me instead of constantly expecting myself to work harder. The calendar. The lists. The time blocks. Moving things around when life changes. Knowing when something genuinely needs to be done and when my brain is simply screaming that EVERYTHING IS URGENT because there are too many open loops.
Because there are definitely a lot of open loops right now.
But there are also a hell of a lot of checkmarks.
That's the part I don't want to miss.
It's really easy for me to look at everything that still needs to happen and forget how much has already happened. Websites are moving. Book work is moving. Client work is moving. Utah plans have gone from this thing I've been talking about forever to actual flights, hotels, lists, plans and a suitcase that's going to be sitting on my floor very fucking soon. Things that were ideas a few months ago are now real things taking up space on my calendar.
That's pretty damn cool when I actually stop long enough to look at it.
And maybe that's why the pressure feels different this time. I'm not trying to create momentum from nothing. I'm already moving. Fast. The job right now isn't to panic about everything that's left; it's to keep directing that momentum toward the right things and remember that I don't have to personally solve every problem that appears between now and departure day.
I also know myself well enough to know this is exactly the kind of week where the basics become even more important. Eat the damn food. Drink the water. Take the supplements. Go outside with the dogs. Walk away from the computer for ten minutes. Sleep. And maybe don't decide at 10:30 at night that this would be the perfect time to completely reinvent something that has been working perfectly fine. 😂
Because getting shit done and running myself straight into the ground are not the same thing.
That's probably one of the biggest differences between this version of me and the one from a few years ago. Pressure used to automatically mean push harder. Now pressure makes me look at the list and ask, Okay, what actually matters? What can wait? What can move? What can someone else handle? And what absolutely needs me?
Then I do that.
Or at least that's the plan. LOL.
So here I am, finally back on the blog, coffee nearby, music probably about to get cranked, and a to-do list that I'm pretty sure could qualify as its own short novel. There is a LOT to do between now and Utah. There will undoubtedly be something I forgot, something that moves, something that takes longer than expected, and probably at least one moment where I look at the calendar and say, Are you fucking kidding me?
But right now?
I'm not overwhelmed.
I'm fucking ready.
So let's get back to it.
Mach One. Hair on fire. Let's go Do the Dang Thang.
