A Dozen Tabs Open, Two Phones Running & Zero Fucks Loading
“Some days you're ready to conquer the world. Other days, you're just trying to decide whether it's worth getting up to put another log on the fire.”
Well, here we are. Another chilly Alberta morning, and apparently my entire system has decided we're operating in low-power mode today. LOL. I've been sitting here debating whether I should light the woodstove, which normally wouldn't require a whole lot of thought, but apparently today even deciding whether I'm cold enough to justify starting a fire is more than my brain feels like dealing with.
I've got about a dozen tabs open on my desktop, scans running on my spare phone, content playing on my main phone, and a cup of coffee that seems to have completely forgotten its purpose in life. I'm wide awake, I've got plenty of things I COULD be doing, and yet the only thing that sounds particularly appealing right now is crawling back into bed with Missy Moo for a good snuggle.
Not because I'm tired. Not because something has gone wrong. And certainly not because I don't have anything to do.
I'm just feeling completely and utterly BLAH.
And honestly, it's a weird feeling for someone like me, because normally my brain is running a million miles an hour. Even when I'm sitting still, I'm usually thinking about three different projects, planning something for next month, remembering something I forgot to put on my calendar, or coming up with another brilliant idea that's going to require approximately seventeen additional hours in a day that only has twenty-four. LOL.
But today? The tabs are open, the ideas are there, and the motivation has apparently packed a bag and left without telling me where it's going.
I've even tried the coffee approach. You know, that wonderful little ritual where you convince yourself that once you've had another cup, everything will magically fall into place and you'll suddenly be ready to tackle the world? Yeah, apparently that's not happening today. The coffee tastes great, don't get me wrong, but as far as providing any sort of motivation, it's about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
And to top it off, I've got a slight headache. Nothing particularly exciting, just enough to be annoying and make me even less interested in doing anything that requires a whole lot of concentration.
Now, being who I am, of course I've already started wondering what's going on energetically. LOL.
We're sitting in the middle of some pretty interesting astrology right now, with Mercury retrograde in Scorpio, Saturn and Neptune retrograde in Aries, and a whole lot of themes around reflection, reviewing and slowing down. And while I don't automatically blame every little thing on the planets, I do pay attention to how I'm feeling during different astrological cycles.
I also know that sometimes a headache is just a headache, and sometimes a low-energy morning is simply a low-energy morning. But I enjoy exploring the spiritual side of things too, and I've learned to pay attention when something feels a little different from my usual rhythm.
The funny thing is, I don't feel mentally exhausted. I'm not sitting here overwhelmed by everything I have to do, and I'm certainly not having one of those mornings where somebody has managed to piss me off before I've finished my first coffee. In fact, compared to some of the mornings I've had over the last couple of weeks, today is downright peaceful.
There's no major drama unfolding, nobody demanding that I drop everything to fix something that should have been handled ages ago, and nothing particularly urgent pulling me in seventeen directions at once.
So why the hell do I feel like somebody unplugged my enthusiasm? LOL.
And I think that's the part that has me scratching my head this morning. Because I'm not sad, I'm not angry, and I'm not even particularly stressed. I'm just sitting here feeling like I should be doing something, while simultaneously having absolutely no interest in deciding what that something should be.
It's almost like my brain and my body have decided to hold separate meetings, and neither one bothered to invite me.
Meanwhile, life around here is carrying on as usual. The dogs still need their rotations, there's the usual collection of homestead chores waiting for attention, and I've got client projects, websites, content and my own business plans all sitting there ready whenever I decide to get moving. It's not like the world has suddenly stopped turning just because I've temporarily misplaced my enthusiasm.
And yes, I could probably force myself to pick a task and start working on it. I've done that plenty of times over the years. But I'm also curious about this feeling, because it isn't one I experience quite this way very often.
Usually when my energy is down, there's a pretty obvious reason. I've been running too hard, haven't slept properly, have too much on my plate, or something has happened that's left me mentally or emotionally drained. But today I actually feel awake. I don't particularly want to sleep. I just really, REALLY like the idea of crawling into a warm bed with a little Chihuahua tucked up against me while the rest of the world figures out what it wants to do.
And let's be real, Moo would absolutely support that decision. LOL.
She doesn't give a damn how many tabs I have open, how many projects I'm working on, or whether I've managed to cross anything off my to-do list. As far as she's concerned, a good day involves a warm blanket, a comfortable place to sleep, some food, and having her humans available whenever she decides it's time for attention.
Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to wonder if the dogs have this whole life thing figured out better than we do.
But before anybody gets excited and thinks I'm about to announce that I've discovered some magical secret to slowing down, relaxing and suddenly having all the energy in the world, let me assure you that is NOT where this story is going. LOL.
I haven't had some profound revelation this morning. I haven't magically transformed my mood through meditation, and I certainly haven't decided to throw my entire schedule out the window and spend the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing.
I'm still sitting here with my dozen tabs open, my two phones running, my coffee getting cold, and that damn woodstove waiting for me to make a decision.
Although, apparently Mother Nature has decided to take that last decision right out of my hands. Because while I've been sitting here contemplating whether it's actually cold enough to justify lighting the fire, we've now got an incoming SNOW WARNING. Yep, that dreaded white fluffy shit is apparently preparing to make another appearance, and this time it sounds like she's planning to stick around for a while. So I suppose that settles the woodstove debate! LOL.
But first, I'm going to eat my breakfast. Because if my coffee isn't going to magically bring my motivation back, perhaps some actual food might help. And even if it doesn't, at least I'll have a full belly and a warm house while I sit here contemplating what the hell I'm going to do with the rest of my day.
Maybe I'll finally pick one of those tabs and actually do something with it. Maybe I'll find my groove this afternoon and manage to knock a few things off my to-do list. Or maybe I'll decide that Moo has made a pretty convincing argument for taking a little break.
At this point, all options are still on the table. LOL.
So if you're having one of those mornings where you're wide awake, you've got things to do, and your enthusiasm seems to have disappeared into another dimension, apparently you're not the only one.
No grand lesson today. No miraculous burst of productivity. No pretending I've got it all figured out.
Just me, my coffee, my open tabs, an incoming snowstorm, and a whole lot of BLAH.
We'll see what tomorrow's Dang Thang Diaries has to say about how today actually turned out.
For now, breakfast is calling, and apparently I've got a woodstove to light.
Let's go Do the Dang Thang!

Or at least THINK about doing it once I've eaten. LOL.
