Okay… I Think My Energy Is Coming Back
“Sometimes the shift isn’t that the list gets shorter. You just finally feel like you have the energy to handle it.”
Today started with absolute fucking chaos outside. LOL.
The county was out patching the road in front of the house, aircraft from the Air Force base were out doing drills, and naturally the dogs decided all of this activity was clearly a threat to national security and required their immediate attention. So while my house sounded like a combination construction zone, airport and badly managed zoo, I just rolled with it.
Basement pumped out. Everyone fed. Long relaxing shower. Laundry thrown in. Office given a quick reset.
And somewhere in there, I actually managed to get myself moving without immediately feeling like I was already behind.
I tackled a few of those mindless work tasks that don't require a whole lot of brainpower, caught up on the team messages in WhatsApp, made myself some breakfast and waited for the chaos outside to settle down. Once the county packed up, the aircraft disappeared and things got a little quieter, I took each set of dogs out for a run and finally felt like I could actually sit down and start my day.
Except today's schedule looks a little different.
Because HOLY SHIT - Utah is now less than a month away.
Apparently booking the flights wasn't enough to make that reality completely sink in. Seeing less than a month on the calendar definitely did.
So before jumping headfirst into client work today, I gave myself permission to deal with some of the stuff that has been quietly taking up space in the back of my brain. Packing lists. Shopping lists. Itinerary stuff. Budget. Things I still need to buy. Things I already have. All those little pieces that aren't necessarily urgent today, but become a giant stressful mess if I keep ignoring them until three days before I leave.
And let's be real - Future Niki does not need that shit.
I also did a quick budget around hubby's cheque coming Friday, because apparently today was just as much about getting my brain organized as it was getting my actual work done.
And now here I am.
It's after 1:00 in the afternoon and technically I'm only just getting ready to really tackle my workday.
A few months ago, that probably would have bothered me. I would have looked at the clock and immediately started mentally calculating how many hours I'd "lost." I'd probably start rushing, open seventeen things at once and try to make up for it by cramming an entire workday into an afternoon.
Except…I haven't lost the morning.
I took care of my house. I took care of the dogs. I took care of myself. I got laundry going. I handled some work. I organized a trip that's coming up quickly. I looked at our budget. I cleared some of the mental clutter that's been sitting in the background going, don't forget about meeeee.
That's not wasted time.
And maybe more importantly, today I finally feel like some of my energy is coming back.
The last little while has felt foggy. Heavy. Buzzy at times. Scattered at others. There have been days where I swear I've been working and working and working, only to look around at the end of the day and wonder what the fuck I actually accomplished.
You know those days?
Grind. Grind. Grind. Make no headway. Somehow take three steps backward. Repeat.
Today doesn't feel like that.
My to-do list hasn't magically gotten shorter. LOL. Let's not get carried away here. There is still a ridiculous amount happening between my own business, client work, home, Utah prep and the hundred random things life likes to toss onto the pile.
But something feels different.
I don't feel like I'm trudging through muck trying to drag myself toward the next task. My brain feels clearer. My body feels a little more willing to cooperate. I can look at the list without immediately feeling like every single thing needs to happen simultaneously.
And THAT makes a difference.
I've talked a lot lately about remembering to listen when my energy says enough. About grounding instead of pushing harder. About making room for the things that bring me joy instead of constantly shoving them underneath everything everyone else needs from me.
Maybe this is the other side of that.
Rest doesn't always mean lying on the couch doing absolutely nothing. Sometimes my version of resetting is taking the dogs outside, having a long shower, getting the laundry going, cleaning my office, making an actual breakfast instead of realizing at 3:00 PM that coffee isn't technically food, and sitting down with my lists until my brain stops trying to hold everything at once.
Then I can work.
Not because I've bullied myself into productivity.
Because I actually have something in the tank again.
And considering how I've been feeling lately, I'm taking that as a fucking win.
So as soon as I hit publish - the blog is done. The house has settled down. The dogs have had their runs. Utah isn't floating around as one giant DON'T FORGET ALL THIS SHIT cloud in my head anymore. I've got my list sitting beside me and, for once, I'm looking at it thinking okay, let's knock some shit out instead of wondering where the hell I'm supposed to start.
Tunes cranked.
To-do list handy.
Hydration nearby.
And apparently I've got some energy back.
Let's go Do the Dang Thang.
