Getting Back Into a Morning Routine

Calendars, Coffee & Mercury's Shenanigans

“Sometimes getting back on track isn't about doing more. It's about remembering what helps you feel like yourself in the first place.”

Well, here we fucking go! LOL. It's Monday, the coffee is flowing, the calendars are open and I've officially started preparing for what promises to be another absolutely ridiculous week. You'd think after the last few weeks of travelling, playing catch-up, getting away for Thanksgiving and then coming home to even more work, I'd be ready to slow things down a little. But apparently that's not how things are going around here. My calendar is already looking pretty damn full, my to-do list is giving me that familiar look of good luck with all this, and I've still got a few things to shuffle around once I make a decision about a new course I've been considering. Because clearly, I needed one more thing to think about. LOL.

But here's something I'm actually pretty proud of this morning. Instead of rolling out of bed and immediately throwing myself into work, I took some time for ME. I started with stretching and meditation, got the usual housework and dog chores taken care of, and then made myself a really yummy brunch. All while catching up on some podcasts I've been meaning to listen to. Nothing particularly fancy or earth-shattering, just a morning where I wasn't rushing to get to my desk before I'd even had a chance to enjoy being awake. And considering how hectic life has been lately, that felt pretty damn good.

After that, I gave the office a quick tidy, got myself settled and started going through this week's to-do list. And yes, that means multiple calendars, lists, deadlines, appointments and all the other little things that help me keep this crazy life somewhat organized. I've talked before about how much I rely on my planning systems, and honestly, I don't know how I'd manage everything without them. Between client projects, my own businesses, upcoming launches, meetings, personal commitments and everything that comes with living on a homestead full of dogs, there's a LOT to keep track of. But as I was sitting there reviewing everything, I realized something else I'd let slide over the last few months.

My own morning routines.

Not completely, of course. I've still been doing bits and pieces of the things that help me feel grounded, and I've definitely been making time for learning, researching and personal growth. But somewhere between Utah, catching up on work, the lake trip and the seemingly endless list of things that needed my attention, some of the routines that used to be automatic became things I squeezed in whenever I happened to remember. And isn't it funny how that happens? We get busy building the life we want, and sometimes the very habits that help us enjoy that life are the first things we push aside.

One of those habits is reviewing my astrology transit charts. Now, before anyone thinks I've suddenly stopped paying attention to what's happening in the sky, don't worry. LOL. I'm still researching, listening, learning and keeping an eye on the planetary movements. But there was a time when sitting down with my charts was simply part of my daily or weekly routine. I'd look at what was happening, compare it with my natal chart, check the upcoming aspects and make notes about anything that caught my attention. It wasn't something I had to remind myself to do. It was just part of how I started my day and planned my weeks.

And lately? Well, let's just say I've been a little less consistent than I'd like.

So this morning, as I was reviewing my calendars and goals, I decided it was time to bring that habit back. Not because I need another task on my list, because good Lord, that would be the last thing I need right now. LOL. But because it's something I genuinely enjoy. I love looking at the patterns, comparing the transits, digging into the symbolism and seeing how different pieces connect. Sometimes it gives me something to reflect on, sometimes it sends me down a fascinating research rabbit hole, and sometimes it just makes me laugh at the timing of everything happening around me.

Which brings me to Mercury.

Oh, beautiful, wonderful Mercury. Of COURSE we're heading into another retrograde. LOL. Technically, Mercury is still in its pre-retrograde shadow right now, with the actual retrograde beginning later this week, but anyone who's been following my adventures lately knows I've already had more than enough fun with vehicles, schedules and communication issues. And yes, I know that astrology isn't proof that Mercury caused any of those things. But I can still appreciate the cosmic comedy of sitting here trying to get my routines back in order while looking at another Mercury retrograde on the calendar.

I mean, seriously. You can't make this shit up.

And maybe that's part of why I enjoy astrology as much as I do. It's not about handing over control of my life to the planets or deciding that I can't accomplish anything because Mercury happens to be moving backward from our perspective here on Earth. It's about having another framework for reflection, another way to explore timing, patterns and the things I'm experiencing. I still have to make the decisions, do the work, have the conversations and deal with whatever life throws my way. Mercury isn't going to organize my office, finish my programs or magically make my to-do list shorter. Although if it wanted to volunteer, I certainly wouldn't complain. LOL.

But looking at my charts does remind me to be intentional. To check in with myself, pay attention to where I'm putting my energy and occasionally question whether I'm working toward the things I actually want or simply reacting to whatever happens to land in front of me. And that's something I've been thinking about quite a bit lately, especially as I get closer to launching some of the programs and projects I've been working on behind the scenes.

Because there's a difference between being busy and making progress.

And believe me, I can be REALLY fucking good at being busy. I can fill a calendar, organize a project, build a system, research something for hours and find approximately seventeen different things that could use my attention before lunch. But none of that automatically means I'm moving closer to the life I'm trying to create. Sometimes the most important thing I can do is sit down, look at the bigger picture and ask myself whether the way I'm spending my time actually lines up with the goals I've been talking about.

That's part of what I'm doing this week. I'm reviewing the calendars, looking at my commitments, making decisions about where I want to focus and bringing back the little routines that help me start my days feeling more like myself. And yes, I'm also considering adding a new course to the mix, because apparently my love of learning has absolutely no concept of how many hours there are in a day. LOL. But I want to make that decision intentionally instead of simply adding another shiny thing to an already overflowing schedule.

I'm also realizing that getting back into a routine doesn't have to mean creating some elaborate two-hour morning ritual that requires perfect conditions, complete silence and a house where nobody needs anything. Because let's be serious, I live with dogs. Lots of dogs. There is no universe in which every morning is going to unfold exactly the way I planned. Some mornings will be peaceful, some will be chaotic, and some will involve me standing in the kitchen wondering why the hell I walked in there while three Chihuahuas supervise my every move.

What matters is making space for the things that actually help.

A little stretching. Some meditation. A proper meal instead of forgetting to eat because I'm buried in work. Listening to something that makes me think. Reviewing my charts, calendars and goals before I start reacting to everyone else's priorities. None of those things is particularly complicated, but together they make a difference in how I approach the rest of my day. And after the last few weeks, I'm appreciating that more than ever.

So yes, this week is going to be crazy. My calendar is full, I've got decisions to make, projects to finish and plenty of things that need my attention. There's a whole lot happening behind the scenes as we get closer to November, and I'm genuinely excited about what's coming. But I'm also determined not to let all that excitement turn into another excuse to put myself at the bottom of my own priority list.

I've spent enough time learning that lesson. LOL.

And maybe that's what this Monday is really about. Not starting over, not completely reinventing my life and certainly not pretending that everything is suddenly going to be perfectly organized and peaceful. It's about recognizing which habits I've missed, bringing them back into my days and remembering that the life I'm building is supposed to include time to actually enjoy it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a calendar to finish organizing, a course decision to make and a whole lot of work waiting for me. And somewhere in the middle of all that, I'll probably be checking my transit charts and laughing at whatever Mercury has lined up next.

Keep the coffee coming, because this week we're getting shit done!

Let's go Do the Dang Thang!
