Building My Dream Life in the Messy Middle | Dang Thang Diaries

The Road to the Dream Life Isn’t Always Pretty

“You can be grateful for where you are and still want more for where you’re going.”

Well, it’s Tuesday afternoon and I’m finally sitting down to write this because WOW, today has been busy pretty much since my feet hit the floor. And allergies? Yeah, they’re kicking my ass. Which is pretty normal this time of year when the fields around the house are being harvested, but knowing why I feel like my face hates me doesn’t exactly make it more enjoyable LOL.

I’ve spent most of today working on about a dozen little pieces for the girls’ book. You know those things that individually don’t look like they should take very long, but somehow when you pile twelve of them together they eat half your damn day? Yeah. Those. Then there are the upcoming website tweaks that need to be done, things that need to be organized and checked, and all the other moving pieces that come with getting a book out into the world.

Meanwhile, somewhere in between all of that, I’m *deep breath* continuing to put together the remaining pieces of my own courses and programs. Because apparently the universe has decided that repeatedly reminding me to stop putting my own dreams at the bottom of the list wasn’t enough. Now we’re moving into the “Okay girl, are you actually going to DO IT?” phase. LOL.

And I am. Slowly. Piece by piece.

Outside, the sun is shining, which I’m definitely grateful for. My truck, however, still has no brakes. Well, technically it has brakes, but until I get the damn things bled properly, she’s not going anywhere. And I cannot seem to get another set of hands out here to help me finish the job.

I mean, I get it. It’s harvest season and I live in a farming community. Everyone is busy as hell right now. Asking someone to pop over for thirty minutes sounds simple until you remember that thirty minutes during harvest might as well be three days LOL. But damn, there are moments where I would REALLY appreciate one extra set of hands.

And I think that’s the part that hit me a little differently today.

I am, in fact, pretty damn alone out here sometimes.

Most days I absolutely love it. I love the peace. I love looking out the window and seeing land instead of neighbours. I love having my dogs, my office, my space and the freedom to crank my music while I work without worrying about anybody else. There are a million things about living out here that I wouldn’t trade.

But there are also days like today where I really wish I had more of a local community. Someone close enough that I could say, “Hey, can you give me a hand for half an hour?” without it becoming an entire logistical operation. Someone to pop over for coffee. Someone nearby when the stupid little things become bigger things simply because they require another human.

Both can be true.

I can love the peace and sometimes feel lonely in it. I can be grateful for this home and still wonder what our next home might look like. I can appreciate everything we’ve built here while also admitting there are pieces of this life that I would change.

Apparently today isn’t the day I solve any of that though LOL.

So instead, I made another cup of coffee, came back to my office and returned to the absolutely ridiculous pre-holiday list staring at me. Thanksgiving weekend is right around the corner, we’re supposed to be heading to the lake, there’s work to finish before we leave, things to pack, things to prep and approximately 4,732 little things floating around in my brain.

And yes, we’re just going to ignore the fact that some of my bags are STILL half full from Utah.

We’re absolutely not discussing that....

What I am focusing on is how much is actually moving forward.

The book pieces are getting finished. Client work is moving. My own programs are moving. There are launches sitting just around the corner that once existed only as scribbles in notebooks and ideas bouncing around inside my head. I have people in my corner helping me build things I used to think I had to do completely by myself. And even though the to-do list seems to reproduce every time I turn my back, I can see things coming together.

Maybe that's the reminder I needed today.

This may not be my ideal life yet.

There are things I want to change. There are things I want to build. There are people I wish were closer, opportunities I’m working toward and dreams that are still very much sitting on the other side of a whole lot of work.

But this life is also a step toward that dream life.

Actually, it’s probably a whole bunch of steps.

There are blessings all around me if I remember to stop long enough to notice them. The sun is shining. My dogs are here. My family is healthy. I have work to do because I built businesses people trust me with. I have courses to finish because I finally stopped pretending coaching wasn’t the direction I wanted to go. I have a trip to pack for because hubby and I have traditions we refuse to let disappear just because life gets busy.

And somewhere between the allergies, the brakeless truck, the half-unpacked suitcase, the book launch, the websites, the courses and the never-ending to-do list... I’m building something.

It doesn't have to look perfect while I'm building it.

So I’m going to keep checking things off the list. I’m probably going to keep adding things to it too LOL. I’m going to drink my coffee, appreciate the sunshine, give myself permission to admit when something feels a little lonely, and then turn my attention back toward everything I’m creating.

Because this may not be the final version of my dream life.

But I sure as fuck am getting closer to it.

Now... back to Doing the Dang Thang.
